Labour & Machinery Efficiency Dashboard

Apr, 25 2025This interactive dashboard offers a clear, data-driven overview of key labour and machinery efficiency metrics across UK arable farms. Developed by Ceres Research, it enables users to benchmark their operations against anonymised industry data, facilitating informed decisions to enhance farm profitability and resilience.
Drawing from comprehensive reviews conducted within Ceres Rural’s farm network, the dashboard provides benchmarks for the below metrics:
- Cropped hectares per arable labour unit
- Litres of diesel used per cropped hectare
- Horsepower per cropped hectare
- Cropped hectares per metre of spray boom
- Drilled hectares per metre of drill
- Combined hectares per metre of cutter bar
These benchmarks provide a starting point for assessing operational efficiency. For instance, a low number of cropped hectares per labour unit might indicate potential for labour reallocation or diversification opportunities. Similarly, high diesel usage per hectare could suggest areas to optimize cultivation intensity or reduce road travel.
By comparing your farm’s figures with industry averages, you can identify areas for improvement and develop a strategic plan to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
How to Enter Your Data – Combinable Cropping Only
To ensure accurate and meaningful benchmarking, this tool is designed specifically for combinable cropping enterprises. If your farm includes other activities such as root crops, livestock, or vegetable production, it’s important to proportion out the relevant resources so that only the combinable element is reflected.
